Ner Tamid (Everlasting Light) Installed at Kotel

Ner Tamid (Everlasting Light) Installed at Kotel

A clear sign of a Jewish synagogue, whether Reform, Conservative, or Orthodox, is a Ner Tamid.  The Ner Tamid has great significance to all Jews.  It is a light that never stops burning and is a symbol of the Jewish peolple as a nation never being extinguished.  It is also symbolic of the Menorah that was always lit in the Temple, as well as the fire that was everlasting on the altar for burnt offerings.

On the 25th of July, the Cojab family of Mexico City dedicated a beautiful Ner Tamid and a Torah scroll to the Western Wall in the merit of their son’s bar mitzvah.  It was quite an event full of singing, dancing, as well as speeches made by some of Jerusalem’s most prominent Rabbis.

Among the speakers were: “the former chief rabbi of Israel, the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Bakshi Doron, the head of Ateret Yisrael Yeshiva, Rabbi Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi, the rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Rabbi Eli Yishai, and Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, founder and director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation.” (*Information from thekotel.org)

Here are a few more pictures from the event.

It was a wonderful event symbolic of Israel’s everlasting light and wisdom.
